More than $3 million in Community Development Block Grants has been awarded to Mason and Montgomery County to assist and improve communities. The program is set to take the financial burden off communities and local governments to make improvements to the Commonwealth.

Mason County’s Judge Executive, Owen McNeil, said the program will provide the county with $1.1 million to replace a water tank that will triple the available water capacity and improve service to over 2,000 homes.

“These funds will be utilized to help build a new $2.5 million, 300,000-gallon water tank here at the Western Lewis Rectorville Water and Gas offices in Mason County and will continue to help expand our community,” said McNeil.

An additional $1.25 million will also be awarded to Mason County, specifically to support the replacement of around 40,000 feet of waterlines along U.S. Highway 68, to improve water pressure. Governor Andy Beshear also noted that Montgomery County is receiving over $700,000 to support significant economic development in the community.

“The fiscal court is partnering with their industrial authority to purchase equipment to lease to RIP Technologies in Mount Sterling. This company invested over $4 million to move their operations from Miami, Florida to Mount Sterling. They now employ nearly 30 Kentuckians. RIP Technologies helps print and frame artwork by independent artists and they sell their works on sites like Amazon,” said Beshear.

Governor Beshear said investing in these projects will help move the state forward with its investment in infrastructure, people, and the future.
