Officials report Rowan County community park is progressing quickly

The basketball courts and dog park for the Harry T. Clark Community Park have been completed. The park, spanning 150 acres, has two lakes, fenced pastures, horse stables, and an indoor meeting space.

The park’s namesake and Rowan County Judge Executive, Harry Clark, said the park is still in the process of being funded.

“We initially had a donation from UK St. Claire that built the pavilion, and then the county has built the restrooms and the deck onto the lake and Independent Stave donated $200,000 to build the basketball courts, the tennis courts, the pickleball courts and the sand volleyball court,” said Clark.

There have also been smaller donations such as benches and the gazebo. Additionally, funds raised at the Sunday Funday event in September were matched by the Bluegrass Community Trust Fund.

Clark said the area is developing quickly and he expects tennis, pickleball, and volleyball courts to all be finished within the next 6 months.

“We also have the house, and it is completely converted to ADA compliant to allow the 4-H extension office to hold their 4-H projects there in that place, along with homemakers and quilters and other folks will be utilizing the house,” said Clark.

Upcoming projects include an inclusive playground with wheelchair accessible equipment, a paved walking trail, an amphitheater, and baseball fields.

The community is reminded that the park is open during construction and closes at sunset.
