Violence Against Women Act grants Kentucky over $2 million in federal funds

Kentucky has been granted more than $2 million through the Violence Against Women Act to help prevent sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence and stalking. Recent legislation has also declared sexual extortion to be a felony.

Governor Andy Beshear said he and his administration are working to take action and seek justice for victims.

“Doing everything, we can hold offenders accountable. Remember, if you harm someone, we will find you. We will arrest you. We will convict you, and we will incarcerate you. Now, violence against anyone is never acceptable. Violence against Kentucky women is far, far too high,” said Beshear.

The state’s grant will also help provide the support and services victims need to heal. Officials said the grant money can only be awarded if an application is filled out first.
“Applications are now open for organizations across Kentucky, including law enforcement, prosecutors, victim services, and state and local courts,” said Beshear.

Applications can be found online at justice.ky.gov and must be turned in by September 26. Domestic violence victims can reach out to the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 800-799-SAFE.
