Officials announce renewal of the Kentucky travel trailer program for storm affected areas

Additional help for Kentuckians affected by the recent tornados is on the way from Louisiana. Last week, Governor Andy Beshear announced the renewal of the travel trailer program.

“We have an agreement with Louisiana for 90 travel trailers that are going to head this way,” said Beshear. “We're purchasing more, we're going to have a total of at least 100 travel trailers to help out people impacted, especially in the London and Laurel County area.”

Five trailers have already been set up in Levi Jackson Wilderness Road Park and the remaining units are on the way. Officials said the site is better than previous locations, which had to be upgraded before use.

“Levi Jackson Park has the water, the power, everything we need, so we're able to bring these travel trailers in, hook them immediately up, and that's going to mean this program runs significantly faster than in the past,” said Beshear

In addition to the program, families are being housed at the Cumberland Falls State Resort Park and the Red Cross. More households are with other volunteer organizations.

The state is still waiting on the Trump administration’s approval for federal individual assistance for eight more counties and public assistance for 22 counties impacted by the May 16 storms.

The Team Kentucky Storm Relief Fund is also available to support affected families, including paying for funeral expenses for those killed in the storms.
