In a message to families and other stakeholders, superintendent Michael Rowe announced Wednesday afternoon that high school principal Jordan Mann has been assigned to other duties outside of the high school.
This comes after student walkouts on Tuesday and Wednesday. The protests followed reports of new court filings in which Mann is accused of failing to report the sexual abuse of a student. The claims are part of a civil suit in connection with events surrounding the criminal conviction of former girls soccer coach Andrew Zaheri, who is currently serving a federal prison sentence for production of child pornography.
Under Kentucky law, any person who knows or has reasonable cause to believe child abuse is taking place must report it to authorities. Failure to do so could result in a misdemeanor charge and the statute of limitations on such a crime is 12 months. Rowan County Attorney Cecil Watkins said police have not filed any such charges with his office in relation to these events.
Rowan County school officials say an acting principal for the high school will be announced soon.
