Rowan County organization prepares to celebrate women leaders

Samantha Morrill

The Morehead-Rowan County Chamber of Commerce is set to host an event celebrating women in leadership rolls across the state, called the LeadHERship Roundtable. Officials said the gathering provides networking opportunities and important keynote speakers for women in various fields.

Jason Slone, President and CEO of Morehead Rowan County Chamber of Commerce, said the celebration is long overdue.

“From our Chamber perspective, we had not incorporated anything directly into our programming that really focused a lot on powerful leadership roles that women are holding, not just in Morehead and Rowan County, but around this region and around the state,” said Slone

The Kentucky Commission on Women found more than 40 percent of businesses in the Commonwealth are owned by women. Additionally, they make up more than 30 percent of representatives in the general assembly.

Slone added the event aims to inspire the next generation of women leaders.

“We hear these things all the time, that there's always barriers, you know, it's a man's world, those type of things, and that's not always true. There's an ability to be able to do these things on a very high level, and we want to be able to bring those resources and bring those opportunities and show that these are the things that can't happen when you put your mind to it, and just celebrate,” said Slone

The event is open to any member of the public, and Slone added it may become an annual tradition. The roundtable will take place at the Morehead Conference Center on April 22 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and lunch will be provided.

More information and registration are available online at the Morehead-Rowan Chamber of Commerce website. Registration will remain open until the day before the event.
