Outdoor enthusiasts will have the opportunity to participate in Carter Caves State Resort Park’s annual Winter Adventure Weekend. The four-day weekend event will feature a variety of activities for people of all skill levels.
Officials said there will be wild and commercial cave tours, hiking, rappelling, and winter survival workshops.
Coy Ainsley is Carter Caves parks programs supervisor. He said beyond cave exploration activities, there are a variety of vertical events.
“All of these rope trips, at least the majority of them, it’s not necessary to have prior experience or equipment. Come and repel if you've never done it before. We’ve got everything you need, and you guys are just going to get the experience, but we do a couple repels. We do a big rope swing we call the leap of faith, where folks are actually stepping off of a 30-foot cliff and going into a big swing into the trees,” said Ainsley.
Ainsley added attendees can take part in just one day or all four days of activities.
“There is a $25 registration fee and with that $25 registration fee, it'll give you access to the walking tours that we have of X-cave and Cascade Cave, and it'll also give you access to the drop-in events. So, the drop-in events are things that we're doing during the weekend that you don't necessarily have to register a time for,” said Ainsley.
Ainsley said some activities require additional payment to cover equipment costs. The Winter Adventure Weekend will be hosted from January 23 through 26. Interested participants must register online here.
