Officials recently provided an update on various tourism projects in Rowan County.
The Morehead Conference Center and Rowan County Arts Center have undergone renovations. The conference center received new tables, chairs, and audio equipment earlier this year. The Rowan County Arts Center now has a gift shop located upstairs in what used to be the side gallery.
Joy Brown, Executive Director of Morehead Rowan County Tourism, said the Rowan County Arts Center is hosting an art sale to raise funds and attract visitors.
“We also have a shop local art sale going on in November through December. So, when you walk in, you don't have to think about buying something you just buy it right off the wall and you take it with you,” said Brown.
Morehead is expected to have a Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife-recognized Blue Water Trail soon. Officials said Blue Water Trails are prime waterways open to the public for fishing and kayaking. Walmart recently donated its wetlands to the City of Morehead, which may be included in the trail.
Brown said the waterway may be recognized by the KDFW as soon as next year.
“We already had people come from the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife to actually fish it. So, we may be featured in their magazine next year, as it's a Blue Water Trail and you don't have to get a certification to have a Blue Water Trail, they designate you. If you have good fishing and good flow in the creek, they designate you,” said Brown.
United Airlines flights landing in Cincinnati, Huntington, and Lexington will now show advertisements for Morehead. Officials said these ads will be played on overhead TVs and feature many of the region’s scenic locations, like Cave Run Lake.
