After being displaced by sprinkler malfunction many MSU students are back in their rooms

Samantha Morrill

Officials with Morehead State University said last weekend a sprinkler in Craft Tower malfunctioned, causing water to flood some areas. Many students who are staying through winter break were forced to move into temporary housing as the cleanup process was completed. Emily Weideman is the Director of Housing and Residential Education at Morehead. She said the physical structure has not been her top priority.

“During this process, my focus has been on the students and making sure that they are all taken care of. And so as far as the full ins and outs and mechanical processes of what occurred, I don't have a full breadth of understanding,” said Weideman.

She also noted though the students had to be relocated during the clean-up, they were allowed back in on Monday.

“Initially we had offered temporary housing and kind of tried to cover as many bases as we could on that emergent basis. Our facilities team did amazing work and was able to get everybody back in. So, they should all be back in their rooms and settled in there,” Weideman said.

Weideman added there was no structural damage reported. The full student body is scheduled to return to campus on January 11 at 10 a.m. Spring 2025 classes resume on January 13.
