The Morehead Women’s Club is hosting a political forum at the Morehead Conference Center. All nine candidates for city council have confirmed they will attend the event. School board candidates for District 2, Gabriel Schadle and Bradley Raines, senate candidates Steve West and Molly Craine, as well as several Soil and Water Conservation Commission candidates have also been invited.
The Women’s Club is accepting questions from the public which they will ask city council candidates.
Forum co-chair Susette Redwine said school board candidates will not be asked questions because while they vote on policy, they do not create it.
“This year, the candidates for school board in District 2 will be given the opportunity just to make a three-to-four-minute statement about what they see the school board direction might be based on what is being brought forth from the school system internally and also from the site-based councils,” said Redwine.
State Senate candidates will also be given the opportunity to make a statement but will not be asked questions. Redwine said the public is still encouraged to submit questions for State Senate and school board candidates.
“We would probably say to the Senate candidates, as we would the school board candidates, ‘We have received questions related to XYZ, and if you wish to address that in your four minutes, you know, you have that opportunity to address that,’” said Redwine.
Questions for candidates can be emailed to gfwcmoreheadwc@gmail.com.
The forum is scheduled for 6 p.m. on October 29 at the Morehead Conference Center. The community is invited to attend.
