September 16 is National GED Day and to celebrate the Morehead State University Adult Learning Education Center (ALC) is hosting an open house. The event is free and open to community members, employers, community agencies, and organizations interested in learning more about what the program has to offer.
The ALC provides services to people who need to prepare for the General Educational Development certificate test, those who want to enter post-secondary education, and anyone who wants to improve their skills for employment.
Opal Fannin is the Director of the Adult Education Program at MSU. She said no two people will have the exact same experience while getting their GED.
“The process is different for each person. It depends on where they’re at, and what they need to study, and how much they can devote to studying,” said Fannin.
Anyone completing their GED at the center will receive diagnostic testing to create an individualized learning plan, based on what they need to study.
Fannin said getting a General Educational Development certificate is completely free.
“All of our services are free, and the state is continuing to offer the GED test for free. They’re covering the costs. That is $120 saving right there,” said Fannin.
The event is from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Morehead State Adult Learning Center, located at 627 East Main Street, Education Services Building.
