Governor Andy Beshear announced during his most recent Team Kentucky Update several cities are receiving funding from the 2023 Community Development Block Grant. There are 11 projects in total, including in Morehead, Winchester, and Mason County.

Mason County’s $520,000 allotment will go toward fixing up seven senior housing cottages. Officials said the homes are on a small campus connected to the Mason County Senior Center and the Mason County Food Bank.

Owen McNeill is the Mason County Judge Executive. He said the work is providing safe and affordable housing to those in need.

“Our housing projects, such as the Mason County Senior Housing project, are some of the most impactful on our local citizens’ lives. We’re making immense strides in supporting housing for all our citizens across the socio-economic spectrum,” said McNeill

Morehead’s $1,000,000 in funding will go toward continuing the construction of a 40-unit multifamily apartment building. The housing development is called Park View Apartments. It will consist of 12 one-bedroom, 20 two-bedroom, and eight three-bedroom apartments located on Triplett Street. Officials reported the work should be completed in 2026.

Laura White-Brown is the Mayor of Morehead. She said the development would not have been possible without continued support from Frankfort and commitment from Frontier Housing.

“It’s a significant step in continuing the revitalization of our community, fostering growth, and providing stability for our citizens. Thanks to this initiative, Morehead is building a brighter, stronger future for all who live here,” said White-Brown.

$1,000,000 dollars awarded to Winchester will help with the construction of five new homes to serve low-to-moderate-income households.
