The MSU Football Eagles are preparing for this Saturday’s bout when they take on the Kentucky Christian University Knights at home. The Eagles are coming off a 17-10 win last Thursday against the Central State Marauders. In that game Morehead had 283 yards of offense, 2 rushing touchdowns, converted 7 of their 17 third downs, and held the Marauders to only 2 of their 12 third downs try’s.
Eagles head coach Jason Woodman said his team isn’t resting on last week’s win, though, and is instead looking ahead.
“Just really focusing on getting back to work. Working on the next game and next opponent and just kind of starting the week over again from zero and building it up. Our goal each week is to go 1-0 no matter who we’re playing. Just kind of forget about what happened in the past, and not worry about the future just work on this week,” Woodman said.
The Eagles have battled with the Knights five times since 2011, and in each of those games, they have come out on top. In those meetings the Eagles combined for a total of 273 points to KCU’s 62. He added this weekend is a big one for his team.
“It’s always a good time and I’m sure that they’re excited to back on the field and play with a bigger crowd. It’s something we’re kind of looking forward to as a whole. But I definitely think it’s a good weekend for Morehead in general, to get families back. Next to homecoming this is probably the biggest weekend. And that’s something we look forward to,” said Woodman.
If the Eagles succeed this weekend, it will be the second time since 2007 they have started the season with two wins in a row. Saturday’s game will start at 6 p.m. at Jayne Stadium. The 3-2-and-1 soccer Eagles are also showcasing their prowess in Morehead this weekend, as they take on NKU at 1 p.m. More information on Family Weekend is at msueagles.com.
