The Kentucky Arts Council is now accepting applications for their Teaching Artists Directory. The directory is a roster of professional artists interested in teaching their craft. Officials said members benefit from professional development and marketing guidance.
Cynthia Warner, the Arts Education Director at the Kentucky Arts Council, said artists on the directory also have access to their peer advisory network.
“We support our teaching artists and our artists and our partners with PD that is current, like how to promote your art, how to photograph your art, and how to design your marketing in a way that is professional,” said Warner.
Warner added that vetted artists also receive referrals.
“You get referrals to presenters and community groups, schools, businesses, government agencies, and other sources seeking to employ high-quality teaching artists. So, it's not just through the schools. They can actually go out into their community,” said Warner.
Artists who are interested may apply online at artscouncil.ky.gov. People are asked to submit sample pieces of what they plan to teach. Applicants will then attend an online interview before being accepted into the directory. Eligible applicants must be 21, and able to work in the United States. The deadline to apply for the Teaching Artists Directory is May 10.
