Flemingsburg Elementary School will be consolidated into the new school.

An eastern Kentucky school district recently got approval to start work on a new school.

The Fleming County Board of Education approved the bids and work plans for the Fleming County school district’s new K-5 elementary school.

Officials said the new school will be built on property located in the center of Flemingsburg. Construction is already underway with crews working to clear the land.

Brian Creasman is the Superintendent of Fleming County Schools. He said kids may be attending the new school sooner than expected.

“We expect the school to open late 2025/2026 school year with students entering August of 2026. That may change, it will not be later than August, but it may be sooner, it just depends on a lot of things,” said Creasman.

Creasman said the district has needed this school for a long time.

“This has been a 20/30-year plan in the making and we’re so looking forward to opening the doors for our students and creating a learning environment for our students and staff that will be there for years to come,” said Creasman.

The new school will consolidate Flemingsburg Elementary, Hillsboro Elementary, and students of the former Ward Elementary, which was closed last spring.
