Samantha Morrill

Spring is here and officials said that downtown Morehead has several events planned in preparation for the warmer weather.

Tony Pence is the Executive Director of Downtown Morehead Inc. He said the Battle of the Bands event led by MSU Professor of Music Ryan Mcgillicuddy, will take place on April 20.

“We’ll have jazz ensembles from 5 or 6 different universities and a couple high schools. University of Louisville, Kentucky, Marshall, Northern Kentucky, just to name a few,” said Pence.

Other events this spring include the MSU Commercial Music Carol King tribute concert on April 9, the spring Friday Night Lights concert series beginning on April 26, Derby Day on May 4, and the Roots Music Weekend on May 27 and 28.

Pence added St. Claire HealthCare’s annual Freedom Fest event is scheduled for July 6.

“We’re in the process of putting all of that together right now too. So, yeah, it’s going to be a fun spring here in Downtown Morehead,” said Pence.

The Carol King tribute concert is a ticketed show, all other events taking place are free to the public.
