A new apartment complex to be built in Morehead City Park is in the works.
Rodney Fouch is the City Planner and Building Inspector for Morehead. He said the project is managed and overseen by Frontier Housing in Rowan County.
“It’s a 40-unit apartment complex. It’s four separate buildings, two story. It’s a mix of single-, double- and three-bedroom apartments, and I believe they are income based,” he said.
Fouch said complexes like this one are important for the community.
“Housing of all sizes, types and styles for all income levels is probably something that we’re at a short supply on right now,” he said. “I don’t think we need, you know, triple the amount we have, but I think there’s certainly a market for some additional units like this.”
Fouch said the project is still in the planning phase, but Frontier Housing is likely to receive final approval from the city to begin construction in the coming weeks. Construction is expected to get underway in late spring and will likely take a year to complete.
The building inspector said traffic will likely increase in City Park once construction is complete and tenants have moved in, but he’s doubtful it will cause any lasting problems.
