Salvation Army looking for volunteers during holiday season

Tammy Cornett

As people begin getting ready for the holidays, Salvation Army branches across the United States are beginning to take volunteers for the holiday season. Rowan County’s Salvation Army is also requesting volunteers to ring the bell.

Tammy Cornett, head of Rowan County’s Salvation Army said there are benefits to volunteering.

“They spend time ringing the bell to help other people. They can socialize. They can meet new friends, it help their mental state,” Cornett said. “It helps to give them a value for themselves, that they’re doing something good for someone. It connects the person with their community.”

Cornett added volunteering can leave a lasting impression on younger generations.

“It shows them the value of helping other people,” Cornett said.

She also said registering to volunteer is a simple process.

“Give Christian Social Services a call and just tell them that you would like to schedule a day to ring the bell, and they will see what is available and get you scheduled,” Cornett said.

Christian Social Services can be reached at (606)-784-5329.
