Optimist International Visual Arts Competition

Optimist International’s Visual Arts Competition

The Optimist Club of Morehead encourages participation in Optimist International’s Visual Arts Competition. The competition, which is open to anyone age 11 or under as of October 1, 2022, is designed to encourage and celebrate visual art skills and give youth an outlet for their creativity. Please contact the Optimist Club at moreheadoptimistclub@gmail.com for guidelines and entry form.

Twelve international winners will have their art featured in Optimist International’s 2024 calendar and receive a $150 monetary award. The winner of the cover design will also receive an additional $100 monetary award. Entries must be received by the Morehead Optimist Club no later than April 15th.

“Engaging with art is essential to the human experience,” Club President Bill Redwine said. “Almost as soon as motor skills are developed, children communicate through artistic expression” he added.

The Optimist Club of Morehead has been supporting local youth since 1964. The Club’s programs and service projects include a community Easter Egg Hunt, sponsorship of the RCSHS Theatre program, a variety of sports clubs, an essay contest and scholarships at Morehead State University and MCTC Rowan Campus.

Optimist International is one of the world’s largest service organizations with nearly 60,000 adult and youth members in about 2,500 clubs in the United States, Canada, the Caribbean, Mexico and throughout the world. Carrying the motto “Bringing Out the Best in Youth, in our Communities, and in Ourselves,” Optimists conduct positive service projects that reach more than six million young people each year.
