The Rowan County School district will receive federal grant monies from the Department of Justice.
More than $85 million in funding to bolster school security, including more than $1.7 million to the eastern district of Kentucky was announced Monday.
Superintendent John Maxey says nearly $420-thousand dollars will be used to increase security in the district.
Maxey says new security cameras will be installed in at all the district buildings. A new electronic door system will be installed at Mcbrayer Elementary and the new board office and preschool building.
Other awardees in east Kentucky include the Ohio Valley Educational Cooperative, Campbell County Board of Education, Corbin Independent Schools, and the Letcher County Sheriff’s Department.
