Enterovirus in KY

The Kentucky Department of Public Health has confirmed that there’ve been several cases of a severe respiratory illness called “enterovirus D-68” in the Commonwealth. Dr. Kraig Humbaugh is deputy commissioner of the department.

He says the cases to date have been restricted to central Kentucky and were reported to the federal Centers for Disease Control…

Dr. Humbaugh says it’s not unusual for a number of viruses be circulating across the U.S. at this time of year. He says the best precautions against “enterovirus D-68” are the same as the flu, frequent handwashing and avoiding close contact with people who have the virus.

The CDC says people in at least ten states have been hospitalized because of “enterovirus D-68”.
