27th District Special Election This Tuesday

History.com

The polls open at 6 o’clock Tuesday morning for the special election that will decide who becomes the next state senator for the 27th District.

The area includes Rowan, Fleming, Lewis, Mason and four other counties. The candidates are Republican Steve West and Democrat Kelly Caudill.

West is an attorney and cattle farmer from Millersburg. He says a vote for him is a vote for smaller government.

“Much of my platform is fighting back against the federal government, the intrusion of the big federal government into our lives. The power is to be reserved to the states and local governments and the powers to the federal government are few and defined.”

Democrat Caudill is a lawyer from Maysville. He says a vote for him is a vote for moderation.

“I intend to go to Frankfort and listen to both sides of every issue, to work in a bi-partisan manner, to hopefully get something done instead of the gridlock that we’ve seen.”

The winner of Tuesday’s election is expected to be sworn into office for the final days of the 2015 Kentucky General Assembly.
