Veterans Homes Underutilized

A coalition of veterans groups believes Kentucky should permit the spouses of veterans to stay in the state’s three veterans’ nursing homes. Larry Arnett is co-chair of the Joint Executive Council of Veterans Organizations of Kentucky. He made the appeal to a panel of state lawmakers in Frankfort Thursday. JECVO represents 23 different veterans’ organizations in the Commonwealth.

Arnett says the nursing homes have too many unoccupied beds…

Arnett says other states allow spouses to stay in veterans nursing homes but Kentucky has never done so. He says veterans themselves should always have priority but if there are vacancies and no veterans have applied for admission, spouses should be considered.
