McConnell Issues Debate Challenge

Insider Louisville

Fresh off their wins in the primary election, U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell is challenging Democratic nominee Alison Lundergan Grimes to three debates.  McConnell proposes three Lincoln-Douglas style meetings with no audience, props, or notes.

McConnell suggests the first debate take place by July 4th before the airwaves are inundated with campaign ads.  The Senate republican leader requests that the other debates occur before Fancy Farm and around Labor Day.

The Grimes campaign has not responded so far to the invitation.  The McConnell-Grimes match-up is expected to be the most closely watched race in the country this year.
