Gray, Fischer Support Sales Tax Option

The mayors of Lexington and Louisville want state lawmakers to allow a vote on amending Kentucky’s constitution to give local governments a sales tax option. Jim Gray and Greg Fischer both testified in Frankfort today before the Interim Joint Committee on Local Government.

Lexington’s Gray says even if the amendment is approved, local voters would still have to okay any new taxes…

Louisville’s Greg Fischer says granting local governments a sales tax option is simply an extension of democracy…

The mayors say other cities across the country that have a sales tax option, have used it to fund critical infrastructure projects which would not have been possible otherwise.
