Senator Thayer Says Tax Reform Uncertain

State Senator Damon Thayer says he’s not sure tax reform will be on the agenda when Kentucky lawmakers meet to draft the state’s next two-year budget in January. The Georgetown Republican and Senate Majority Leader tells Insight Cable’s Pure Politics the issue is in Governor Beshear’s court.

Thayer says he met with the Governor recently to talk about legislative priorities for 2014 and the budget and a new road plan were foremost on the list. When it comes to tax reform, Thayer says, that’s an open question...

"It depends on what is tax reform...because the Senate Republicans, and I doubt the House Republicans are going to be in favor of a tax reform that raises 700 million dollars in new revenue...which is what Lieutenant Governor Abramson's task force recommended." - Damon Thayer

Thayer says Republicans want tax reform that expands business opportunities and creates jobs.
