Abandoned Horses in Eastern Kentucky

My World Shots

A state representative who serves on a subcommittee on horse farming says about a thousand horses and donkeys have been abandoned in Kentucky and are roaming the countryside.

Democrat Susan Westrom says many of the animals are in eastern Kentucky.

“I saw pictures of the horses in eastern Kentucky in some of the reclaimed coal mines and I tell you what, they are looking beautiful. Evidently some of the people in the local communities have adopted these herds and have made sure they have been fed appropriately, they look wonderful.”

However, she’s encouraging Kentuckians who have land and the financial means to provide foster homes for horses that have been abandoned.
