Ashland Alliance Focusing on Work-Ready Certification

Fabricating & Metal Working

The president of the Ashland Alliance is hoping to get Boyd and Greenup Counties certified soon as “Kentucky Work Ready Communities”.

Tim Gibbs heads the business organization that promotes commerce in the two communities.

Gibbs says the step is critical in sending a message that the region is committed to producing the skilled workforce that companies need.

“That brings together business and industry educators, workforce development, elected officials…all together to talk about, this is where we are and this is how we can take it to the next level for our workforce.”

The certification process was developed by the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet. It calls on educators and community and business leaders to work together on a plan to assure employers that a county meets certain criteria for educational attainment, skills development and digital literacy.
