BSCTC Holds Skills U Graduation

Big Sandy Community & Technical College is pleased to announce the graduates of Skills U 2019. The commencement ceremony took place on the Mayo Campus on June 21, 2019.

Dr. Sherry Zylka, President of BSCTC addressed the graduates with encouragement and the challenge to keep pursuing education.

Zylka stated, “And while we celebrate this diploma, I would be remiss if I did not take this opportunity to ask this necessary question: NOW WHAT? You probably could have guessed that I would urge you to go to college. And that is why I ask: now what?”

BSCTC looks forward to enrolling these recent Skills U graduates in classes for the fall semester. Because they are determined, confident in their abilities, and passionate about learning, Skills U graduates often earn college degrees and accomplish many great things.

Skills U is a statewide initiative to prepare students for college, help students obtain GEDs, improve basic skills, provide English as a Second Language courses, and prepare students for employment. Services are provided locally by school systems, community and technical colleges, community-based organizations, educational cooperatives, universities or local government.

Paul Hitchcock earned his Masters in Communications from Morehead State University and Bachelors in Radio-TV/Psychology from Georgetown College. A veteran broadcaster for more than 40 years and an avid fan of blues, jazz and American roots music. Hitchcock has been with WMKY since 1986 and was named General Manager in 2003. He currently hosts "Muddy Bottom Blues" (Fri., 8pm-9pm), "Nothin' But The Blues" (Sat., 8pm-12am), "Sunday Night Jazz Showcase" and "Live From The Jazz Lounge" (Sun., 8pm-9pm) and "The Golden Age of Radio" (Sun., 2pm-3pm). He also serves as producer for "A Time For Tales" and "The Reader's Notebook."
