KCTCS Investment Plan Announced

Campus Explorer

Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear has announced a plan for Kentucky’s community and technical colleges to enable construction and renovation projects on every two-year campus across the Commonwealth.

Gov. Beshear and KCTCSPres. Michael McCall announced the 194-million dollar initiative at a press conference on Monday (Feb. 3).

The plan is called The Build Smart Investment for Kentucky Competitiveness.

Beshear says it includes 16 projects, one on every two-year campus. He says it’s the largest single investment in the KCTCS since its founding.

McCall says there’ve been no capital investments in the KCTCS since 2006 and projects are sorely needed everywhere. He says Ashland and Morehead are just two examples.

McCall also says most of the funding will come from a fee of eight-dollars per credit hour per student. He says its likely four-dollars will be imposed this fall and the other half next year.

Local communities and other public or private sources would provide the rest of the money.
