Head Start Program Funding Urged

Kentucky Congressman Hal Rogers says he can’t believe House members who support the Head Start Program will not back his plan to fund 16-hundred Head Start centers across the country.

The Pulaski County Republican made the comment Tuesday (October 8) when several Democrats spoke in opposition to Rogers’ “Head Start for Low Income Children Act”.

“Yes it does not include the entire government, but are gonna  hold hostage, these kids from poor families who are desperate for this program? Are we gonna hold them hostage or are we gonna go ahead and approve this short-term funding for the Head Start program.” –Hal Rogers

Rogers’ bill would provide 7.6 billion dollars for Head Start. He says 28-hundred Kentuckians will lose access to the program on November 1st unless Congress acts.

Democrats oppose the measure and other partial appropriations bills because they do not include funding for the Affordable Care Act.
