Mt. Sterling Mayor Gary Williamson is proud of the way the city has responded to drug trafficking.
Williamson says a commitment was made several years ago to put more money and manpower into busting drug dealers and it has made a difference.
The city formed a task force and arrests for selling narcotics in the community now rank among the highest in Kentucky.
Williamson says the drug crackdown is focused on dealers. He says it’s a waste of time to arrest those who simply possess drugs.
The city created a line item in the budget to fight drugs and assigned two officers specifically for that mission.
