Rogers Seeks Marijuana Law Enforcement

Toke Of The Town

Congressman Hal Rogers says federal drug laws are being selectively enforced and he doesn’t like it. The Somerset Republican voiced his displeasure on C-Span’s Newsmakers program.

Rogers says U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder is declining to prosecute people who smoke and sell marijuana in states that have legalized the drug.

“Marijuana is illegal, under federal law. It’s an illegal substance, it’s a scheduled drug regulated by the government, federal government, and yet, the attorney general and the administration, is turning their backs on enforcing that law and allowing states like Colorado and Washington State to legalize marijuana.” –Hal Rogers

Rogers says he doesn’t support federal legislation to make marijuana legal and produce additional tax revenue for the government.  He claims that money would be offset by spending on social problems stemming from drug abuse.
