Statewide training to law enforcement, prosecutors on Child Exploitation Cases

Gypsee

Attorney General Andy Beshear and the Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation Prevention Board today announced three statewide trainings focused on investigating and prosecuting child exploitation cases.

The two-day upcoming trainings, one in Gilbertsville, Louisville and Prestonsburg, are for law enforcement and prosecutors on “going beyond a child’s word and seeking evidence to corroborate a child’s statement.”

“One of my top priorities is to protect Kentucky families, especially our children, from abuse and exploitation,” Beshear said. “These free, statewide trainings will support our police and local prosecutors in their day-to-day work to protect our children and make our neighborhoods and homes a safer place.”

The Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation Prevention Board, which the AG’s Office of Child Abuse and Human Trafficking Prevention and Prosecution administers, funds the trainings.

Over the last two years, the board has funded more than $200,000 in programs statewide to prevent child sexual abuse and provided more than $50,000 in funding for more than 700 child sexual abuse medical exams.

The Fox Valley Training Center, the training arm of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, will provide instruction at each of three “Following the Evidence in Child Exploitation Cases” trainings.

•The first training is in Louisville March, 19-20 at Kosair Charities Louisville, 982 Eastern Parkway. The deadline for law enforcement and prosecutors to register is Feb. 16.

•The second training is in Prestonsburg April 16-17 at Jenny Wiley State Resort Park. The deadline for law enforcement and prosecutors to register is March 16.

•The final training is in Gilbertsville June 4-5 at Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park. The deadline for law enforcement and prosecutors to register is May 4.

It’s anticipated that nearly 75 participants will attend each training.
