Ashland Offering Reward For Tire Theft

The Tire Store

The city of Ashland is offering a five-thousand dollar reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for stealing 143-thousand dollars in tires from the city.

The theft was discovered recently during an audit of the city’s budget by a private firm.

Mayor Chuck Charles is counting on the reward to help the city find out what happened.

“It just irritates me that we’ve not been able to produce, to an arrest or to a conviction but this should be a good shot for us.” –Chuck Charles

Regardless of whether Ashland ever discovers what happened to the tires, Charles says, the experience has been a hard lesson for city administrators about the importance of financial oversight. He says the city’s purchasing procedures have been altered to prevent similar problems in the future.
