Charges have been filed in a weekend accident which killed a Fleming County man.
On Sunday, Kentucky State Police Post 8 Morehead received a called from Morehead 911 requesting assistance on the scene of a fatal accident on Kentucky 32 at Elliotville.
KSP Trooper Bryantt Furman and Sgt. Eugene Robinson responded to the scene along with Elliottville Fire Department, Rowan County EMS and members of Rowan County Sheriff’s Department.
Upon arrival it was determined that the operator of the 2002 Ford Explorer, Eric Gallagher, of Hillsboro in Fleming County, had been traveling eastbound on Kentucky 32/Christy Creek Road, police said.
According to a preliminary report, Gallagher apparently attempted to negotiate a curve but due to the high speed of the vehicle he lost control and traveled off the left side of the roadway and flipped several times before coming to a final rest on Kentucky 32.
Gallagher was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced deceased at the scene by Rowan County Coroner John Northcutt.
The two passengers in the vehicle, Jason Hall and Jarvis Dehart, were transported to St. Claire Regional Medical Center by ambulance and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
They were both charged with public intoxication, first-degree possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The accident is under investigation by KSP Trooper Furman.
