Community Advisory Board Meeting Minutes February 11, 2015

The meeting began at 6:07PM at Morehead State Public Radio (MSPR). 

Mary Caric, MSPR Community Advisory Board (CAB) Chair welcomed returning members and new members of the CAB.

Old Business

Minutes of the November 12, 2014 were reviewed. Nona Camuel made the motion to approve the minutes and Greg Dike seconded.  The motion passed.

The Quarterly Program Report for the period of July – September 2014 was presented by Paul Hitchcock.  Greg Dike made motion to approve the report and Nona Camuel seconded. The motion passed.

Paul Hitchcock updated the CAB on the new antenna and de-icer project, which have been installed and operational at the WMKY antenna site.

Discussions continue regarding the Appalachian News Project with public radio stations WUKY, WMMT, and WVPR.  The group is in the process to locate funding for the health news initiative.

Greg Dike agreed to serve as Vice-Chair and Colby Thatcher as Secretary for the CAB during 2015. A motion was made by Nona Camuel to approve both appointments and Mary Caric seconded. The motion passed.

There were no guests.

New Business

Applications for the 2015 MSPR/CAB Student Leadership Award were discussed. Greg Dike made a motion to nominate Joshua Grandison for the award. Mary Caric seconded. The motion passed.

Paul Hitchcock mentioned an agreement has been initiated with Radio Eye, a radio reading service based in Lexington, to provide programming on WMKY’s sub-channel to those individuals who may be blind, visually-impaired or experience reading problems. The service will be provided at no charge and specially-designed radios will be offered in the community. The service is expected to begin by this summer.

MSPR has entered into an agreement with the CARS Vehicle Donation Program. Information will be posted on MSPR’s website for information on how to donate cars, trucks, boats, RV’s and other vehicles. Donors will receive a tax deduction and MSPR receives a percentage of every donation.

2015 marks the 50th anniversary of WMKY’s first broadcast on June 15, 1965. A special logo is being designed to help recognize the special event and mailings will be sent to members. Other plans include creating poster size photos from WMKY’s archives to hang in MSPR’s studios.

The next quarterly CAB meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, May 13th at 6:00PM in MSPR’s studios.

With no further business to discuss, the CAB meeting was adjourned at 6:50PM.
