One food service worker in ADUC has caught the attention of Morehead State students by bringing kindness and joy into a difficult semester.
Howie Taylor has been known to go the extra mile when it comes to working as a food service worker at Chick-Fil-A in the Adron Doran University Center (ADUC). This ranges from helping out other restaurants when they need more people to having conversations with students to make their days better.
“When people can make me smile, that’s what does it for me,” said Taylor, a six-year Navy Veteran. “You guys make me laugh, so that makes me happy. I could come in here, having the worst day ever and something happens, and it just makes it all better. I wouldn’t trade it for anything.”
Taylor has also been a volunteer firefighter, an EMT, and has worked with search and rescue after being raised around a funeral home and wanting to help the living and the sick, and not have to deal with the dead.
During his three and a half years at ADUC, Taylor has had students go out of their way to go to the restaurant that he is working at just to talk to him.
“He always cares about people. He’ll go out of his way to make sure that your food’s good. Sometimes I’ll go out of my way to go where he’s working because I know he does a good job,” said Jacob Hammond, a sophomore middle school education major.
There have been tweets from MSU Barstool, a social media account run by students, that have suggested creating a statue to honor Taylor because of his popularity with the students.
“I’m all for it. It’s a pretty cool idea. I still get teased about it at work,” said Taylor. “When that tweet first happened, it was the funniest thing. They were like ‘have you not seen this’ and I’m like ‘no’. I didn’t even have twitter before this started. I was like ‘if my name is going to be out there, I’m going to have to download it just to see what people are saying.’”
