St. Claire HealthCare Welcomes Megan Burke, APRN

St. Claire HealthCare

St. Claire HealthCare (SCH) is proud to welcome Megan Burke, APRN, to SCH’s general surgery practice.

A native of Morgan County, Burke says she always knew she wanted to work in healthcare, “I knew I wanted to be a nurse when I was five years old. I was stung by a bee at my aunt's house who happened to be a nurse. As she took care of me, I knew then I wanted to grow up and take care of people too.”

Burke began her healthcare career at the age of 18 as a part-time CNA at a nursing home while she attended nursing school. After earning her degree from Morehead State University (MSU), Burke worked in various nursing units around the region before finding her way to St. Claire HealthCare. She joined the SCH family in 2014 as an RN in Same Day Surgery.

“I loved my job, but wanted to do more,” said Burke. “I decided to go back and further my education because I wanted to be a stronger advocate for my patients.”

Burke continued her education earning her BSN from MSU in 2015 and her Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) in 2019 as a member of the program’s first graduating class. During her rotations, she had the opportunity to work in a variety of departments at SCH including med-surg (3C), family medicine, pediatrics, podiatry, and wound care.

After a temporary position at a small family medicine clinic in Clay City, Burke returned to SCH in early December to join James Lynch, MD, and Jacob Perry, MD, in St. Claire HealthCare’s general surgery practice.

“I am excited to be back home at St. Claire, to give back to my community, and to provide care to our surgical patients. I feel as though I am finally making my dream come true: I am taking care of people,” said Burke.

In her spare time, Burke enjoys spending time with her husband of 10 years and their two daughters, BaileeAnn (8) and Evelyn (4), her fur babies, and a little flock of chickens. She and her family enjoy going to hockey games, family game/movie nights, and outdoor activities including camping, swimming, fishing, and hiking.
