Yarmuth Voices Car Safety Concerns

Auto Guide

Kentucky Congressman John Yarmuth thinks everyone would be better served if General Motors improved its communications to customers and dealers when it issues a recall of vehicles because of safety concerns.

The Jefferson County Democrat made his comments Tuesday (April 1) to GM Chief Executive Officer Mary Barra during a hearing in Washington, DC.

Yarmuth says a female member of his staff received a recall notice related to power steering issues involving her 2005 Malibu. When she called the dealer to have the car repaired, Yarmuth says, she was told they didn’t know how to fix it and suggested she keep driving it, if she felt safe.

Yarmuth is suggesting that GM be more proactive about safety issues and better communicate specific information to those who sell and drive its vehicles.
