AK Steel Reports Loss

AK Steel

AK Steel has reported a second quarter loss of more than 40-million dollars. Company Chairman James Wainscott says the performance was actually better than the raw numbers indicate. He says scheduled and unplanned outages at the firm’s Middletown, Ohio blast furnace affected the results…

Wainscott says the June 22nd through July 12th unplanned outage at the Middletown blast furnace cost the company 6.2 million dollars. During the interruption, he says, AK utilized its Ashland Works blast furnace and Butler, Pennsylvania electric arc furnace to help service customers.

AK Steel’s Ashland mill employs about 800 workers.
