Kentucky Artisan Center to Offer Exhibit Tours on April 9

Kentucky Artisan Center

The Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea will offer visitors free guided tours through the center’s gallery exhibit, “Great Impressions: Prints by Kentucky Artisans” and the lobby exhibit, “Kentucky Clay: A Continuing Tradition,” on Saturday, April 9.

The gallery exhibit, “Great Impressions,” showcases the work of 20 Kentucky printmakers who have created images that tell stories and narratives, illustrate realism and nature, show humor, clarify points of view and show graphic abstraction. The exhibit includes tools, printing plates and blocks and information on the history of printmaking and techniques.

The lobby exhibit, “Kentucky Clay: A Continuing Tradition” covers the geology and history of clay in Kentucky, describes the types of clay and its uses, the tools and processes used to work with clay and covers several of the well-known production potteries in the state. The exhibit also gives an overview of Kentucky’s ceramic education and how it has shaped the state’s talented ceramic artists.

These free, guided exhibit tours will be led by Kentucky Artisan Center information specialist Gwen Heffner, who will talk about the exhibit, the artists and individual works. Heffner will answer questions about the techniques and various processes used in the objects featured. Tours will be given at 11 a.m. and again at 2 p.m.

In addition, on April 9, quilt artist Marilyn Foulke will demonstrate quilting “Fins and Feathers” from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea is located at 200 Artisan Way, just off Interstate 75 at Berea Exit 77. The center’s exhibits, shopping and travel information areas are open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. with the cafe open from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free.

The center features works by more than 700 artisans from more than 100 counties across the Commonwealth. For more information about the center’s events call 859-985-5448.
