Kentucky Crafted: The Market has been named one of Southeast Tourism Society's Top 20 Events for March 2015.
The Market is the Kentucky Arts Council's signature event, produced each spring and featuring the highest quality art, craft, literature, music and food found in Kentucky.
The Southeast Tourism Society is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the promotion and development of tourism throughout the 12 states of the southeastern United States. Its Top 20 Events publication receives extensive exposure in print media, Web, television and radio in the U.S. and Canada. More than 1,600 print publications and broadcast outlets receive the listings.
"To be singled out by the Southeast Tourism Society as one of their top 20 events is truly an honor," said Lori Meadows, arts council executive director. "Their organization touches several media outlets, as well as web users, who will all know that we've got something special going on here in Kentucky in March, in addition to great basketball."
There are very specific criteria to be included in the Top 20, said William T. Hardman, president and CEO of the Southeast Tourism Society, including a significant record of history and attendance.
"We look at a number of characteristics, but the fact that you have more than 200 artists and offer a wide variety of art and craft has caught our adjudicators' attention," Hardman said. "We get hundreds of entries for this program and to be selected means that individuals who know what it takes to put on a festival like yours think the arts council does an outstanding job promoting and carrying out this event."
Kentucky Crafted: The Market will be March 7-8 at the Lexington Convention Center.
The Kentucky Arts Council, the state arts agency, fosters environments for Kentuckians to value, participate in and benefit from the arts. Kentucky Arts Council funding is provided by the Kentucky General Assembly and the National Endowment for the Arts.
