Morehead State RSVP Volunteers Help Bethany House

Morehead State University

Members of Morehead State's AmeriCorps Seniors Retired Senior Volunteers Program (RSVP) have been helping an area charitable organization serve its clients throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

Bethany House Christian Service Center Inc. in Olive Hill has been helping low-income families in Carter County to become self-sufficient for the past 31 years. RSVP members aided in the non-profit's efforts by helping prepare and distribute food boxes, offering clerical support, assisting with client intake and screenings, supporting the agency's referral service, and maintaining food bank inventory. RSVP members have been working with Bethany House since October 2019.

"They displayed astonishing dedication and commitment through these difficult and dangerous times," said Helisha Tuerk, associate director of RSVP. "This was a true exhibition of what RSVP volunteers are made of selflessness, courage, compassion and bravery. They were true heroes and deserve the admiration, recognition and honor for what they have done."

The purpose of the Morehead State University Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) is to provide challenging and satisfying volunteer assignments for people 55 and older, thus enabling them to remain active and to serve their communities in a volunteer capacity.

By donating their time and skills, they provide non-profit organizations with invaluable services that make community organizations more effective so that more people can be reached, more services can be provided and more human problems can be solved.
