Will Run 4 Tacos race raised money for families in need

The Running Wife

The Running Wife held a virtual four mile run to provide food for Olive Hill families.

Profits from Will Run 4 Tacos as well as donations went toward taco kits for Olive Hill families in need, as determined by local family resource centers. The kits were given out Thursday, April 30 at West Carter Middle School.

“When our Grayson members told us of the need, we immediately wanted to help,” said Ashleigh Freda from The Running Wife. “We provided more than just taco kits. We also provide bread, milk, eggs, canned items, cleaning supplies. As much as we can give, we give.”

Freda learned about the need for help in Olive Hill after giving away food at East Carter Middle School in Grayson, where they gave away more than $4,000 in food and essential products to Grayson families.

The four-mile race, which sold out with 400 participants, was done virtually due to social distancing guidelines.

“We opened registration on April 4 and since then the race has sold out at 400 runners. Anyone who paid $20 was able to register. It included the cute taco shirt.”

The Running Wife has members in multiple states but focuses on cities where they are told people need help. Help is given to families most in need by working with resource centers.

“Families are notified through their family resource center,” said Freda. “This idea stemmed through our running club, The Running Wife Club. I am based in Lexington, Ky and we are helping many families here through teachers and resource centers. Some teachers pick up 20 to 30 meal boxes per week to deliver as they have seen an increase in the need and more people needing to be in a backpack program.”

Freda said their goal is to spread joy and ease the burden during uncertain times.
