Model Train Display to Highlight KHS Candlelight Tour

Kentucky Historical Society

Get in the holiday spirit with a visit to the Kentucky Historical Society starting Nov. 10 with the Downtown Frankfort Candlelight Tour and continuing weekends and special days through Dec. 31 with a special Holiday History Train display.

On Thursday, Nov. 10, KHS will be open free to the public, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. for the Candlelight Tour, the traditional Frankfort kick off to the holiday season. The evening will feature:

Opening of the Holiday History Train display

Children’s activities

A joint performance by the Capital City Chorale and the Lexington Singers (at 7:30)

The Holiday History Train will be on display through Dec. 31.

This privately owned, 21-foot x 65-foot, O-gauge layout features three main lines and will nearly fill the Keeneland Gallery. Three trains will run simultaneously, with up to 100 cars on the layout at one time. The display includes steam engines that smoke and whistle, working crossing lights, carnival rides and other accessories. A smaller display will feature Thomas the Tank Engine and pre-1941 Lionel trains.

The trains will run Fridays, 5-9 p.m. and Saturdays, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., with a few exceptions. A full schedule is at history.ky/events. Children’s activities are scheduled for Friday evenings when the train runs.

KHS will complement the train display with train images from its collections. Regular KHS admission applies.
