Holiday Guidance Amid COVID-19: Don't Gather, Don't Travel

People across the country and right here in Kentucky began being vaccinated against COVID-19 this past Monday but health experts warn, it will be months before we can begin to return to some form of pre-pandemic normalcy. Here in Kentucky, State Public Health Commissioner Dr. Steven Stack said we must remain vigilant in order to keep the virus from spreading until a majority of the population can get vaccinated.

On Thursday he went over guidelines to keep you and your family safe over the holidays. Just like Thanksgiving, it’s recommended that you don’t gather with anyone you don’t live with. If you do, “we are again asking you to limit the size of your gatherings to eight people max and no more than two households. Ideally you would stay with only your own household” said Dr. Stack. “If you get together with people with whom you do not live, you should assume that someone in that group is infected. And if you eat and drink and take your masks off you should assume you are high risk of getting infected. The disease is that widespread at this time.”

Other winter holiday guidance includes avoiding large gatherings, especially if they are held indoors, do not host or attend large parties or events, avoid traveling and continue to wear a mask, practice social distancing and wash your hands.
