Vice Mayor Steve Kay announced two meetings during the press conference. The first, to be held tomorrow from 1 to 3 pm, will discuss possible changes to public safety policies and procedures. The meeting will include the Commissioner of Public Safety, the LFUCG Law Dept., the Chief of Police, and a representative of the Fraternal Order of Police.

Kay also announced another meeting of unspecified date/time to field comments from the community.

1st District Councilman James Brown spoke during the conference and acknowledged Chief of Police, Lawrence Weathers.

Brown says that as a lifelong resident of Lexington he can attest to inequities and injustices, but that members of the city council have supported several measures to end discrimination and promote equality.

Council Member Jennifer Mossotti says the group will review LPD policies and procedures, to include use of force practices, no knock warrants and the collective bargaining agreement. The meeting will be streamed live via LexTV on the city's website and via Zoom.
