A record number of businesses and organizations have registered to lobby during the 2015 legislative session. According to a report by the Legislative Ethics Commission, 25 of those have signed on in just the past month.
Commission spokesperson John Schaaf says some of this year’s big spenders should come as no surprise.
"Some of the new ones in the top group are probably lobbying on the issue relating to the public-private partnerships that may be used to build the bridge in northern Kentucky, so that group has moved up to the top. AT&T has some legislation they are very interested in, so they're one of the top groups this time," he says.
So far, groups hoping to sway Kentucky’s elected representatives have shelled out close to $1.8 million this year, putting 2015 on track to match or exceed the last short session in 2013.
In all, 677 businesses and organizations are actively lobbying in Frankfort.
