Strong Defense Not Enough as MSU Falls to UL

In the final non-conference game of the season, Morehead State Soccer fell on the road to the University of Louisville 1-0 at Lynn Stadium.

Louisville outshot MSU 15-4, but defensively the Eagles matched the Cardinals' physical play by keeping them off-balanced throughout the evening.

"We defended well, we were disciplined, we were organized, and our back four were outstanding tonight," said Head Coach Warren Lipka. "We were just a couple of touches away from getting quality chances, but we played well against a quality opponent."

The first and only goal of the night came in the 24th minute by Louisville sophomore forward Isabella Habuda. She collected her own rebound off a wide shot, striking the left bar with the perfect bounce, Habuda collected herself and knocked the ball in with her left foot, claiming the 1-0 lead. Louisville would continue their attacking offense style through the rest of the first half, accumulating seven shots, with three shots on goal.

According to Lipka, the way his team played on the road against an ACC team was the way he wanted his team to compete right before taking on OVC opponents.

"This was a great tuneup, we have to be ready on Sunday. They will come in with intensity, and we'll have to match them," said Lipka.

The Eagles will face Eastern Kentucky, at Jayne Stadium Sunday at 1pm.
